As Girls Grow Up sponsored by Overlake Hospital: Parents and daughters are invited to join us in a discussion of puberty, sex and relationships. Dessert snacks and a book, "The Period Book", are included. The seminar is presented by Monica Richter, MD and Bridgett Blackburn, MS and the cost is $40/one parent and daughter/s, ages 9-12, $12/additional person. The next class will be on Friday, August 22, 2008 at 3:30 PM. Call (425)688-5259 to register.
BodyWorks, a health education program designed by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, is coming to Valley Medical Center. The program provides parents and caregivers of young adolescent girls with the tools to help improve family eating and activity habits. The toolkit includes a video on healthy shopping and cooking strategies, a recipe book, food and fitness journals, and more. We request no payment, just a commitment to attend weekly Wednesday evening meetings for ten weeks. The next series runs from October 1 to December 3, 2008. For more information, visit www.womenshealth.gov/bodyworks/. If you are interested in enrolling, contact us at bodyworksprogram@gmail.com.
As Girls Grow Up Follow-up Class: For 11 to 14 year old girls and their parents. Also at Overlake Hospital, this is a more in-depth discussion of sensitive adolescent topics including: body image, making healthy choices, friendships and dating, and sexual activity. A basic understanding of puberty and sexual intercourse is helpful. Snacks are provided. The cost is $35/parent and adolescent; $12 per additional person. The next class is scheduled for June 5, 2008. Call 425-688-5259 to register.
